Meet Lisa Schuette

Hi, I’m Lisa Schuette and I’m running for re-election for Supervisor, Ward 4.

I’m committed to ensuring that Carson City continues to be a wonderful place to live. I’ve spent my adult life in public service through my work in law enforcement, education, and creating and chairing the non-profit Carson Animal Services Initiative (CASI) that spearheaded the building of our animal shelter and now provides spay/neuter access to low-income pet owners.

As a City Supervisor I’ve prioritized investment in safety and city infrastructure including the building of a new fire station, and updating the Quill Water Treatment Plant. I served on the NACO National Housing Taskforce and am proud to have supported teaming with the housing non-profit Oikos to build apartments priced below market rate, helping to meet the housing needs of vulnerable seniors. I’m excited about participating in Carson City’s current Master Plan update. This is a great opportunity for community members to share their ideas so that the update reflects the needs and visions of all of us. Speaking of all of us, it’s essential that we work together to establish adequate road funding. Our residential roads need a budget that can provide for proper maintenance and preservation.

This is our community. Working together we can meet the challenges.

Observations

It’s important to be able to articulate ‘the why’ when making decisions. I strive to facilitate a better public understanding of the process and purpose of decisions that come before the board. Working with the city departments has provided deeper insight into the process of how projects come to fruition.

Challenges & Opportunities

Supervisors are tasked with making decisions that can have far-reaching consequences, often with many conflicting stakeholder opinions.

Priorities

The conditions of our local roads have been impacted by increased maintenance costs and funding shortfalls. Road related functions of pavement maintenance, access, mobility, safety, right-of-way, and the reconstruction of failed roadways are costly yet essential. Investing in our roads benefits us all.

A Little About Lisa

Born in Carson City, I graduated from Carson High School, and the University of Nevada, Reno. I’ve been married to my husband, Steve, for 35 years and we share our home with Hank, our naughty but lovable lab. A lifelong runner, I enjoy Carson City’s trails and open space. When there’s a bit of free time, I love to visit family.

“I’ve learned firsthand that taking the time to study all sides of an issue ensures the best possible outcome for our city and its residents.”
